RBI Retail Direct Gilt Scheme
RBI Retail Direct Scheme is a one-stop solution to facilitates investment in Government Securities by individual investors. Under this scheme individual retail investor can open a Gilt Securities Account – “Retail Direct Gilt (RDG)” account with RBI. The RBI Retail Direct Platform that enables individual investors to easily buy and sell government securities. It allows direct, commission-free access to primary and secondary markets without the need for brokers.
- Key Features and Offerings:
- Instruments Available: Treasury Bills (T-Bills), dated Government of India (G-Secs), State Development Loans (SDLs), Sovereign Gold Bonds (SGBs), and Floating Rate Savings Bonds.
- Retail Direct Gilt (RDG) Account: Investors can open and maintain a gilt account directly with the RBI free of cost.
- Primary Market: Allows non-competitive bidding in primary auctions of government securities.
- Secondary Market: Provides access to the NDS-OM (Negotiated Dealing System - Order Matching) platform to buy and sell existing securities.
- Payments: Transactions can be funded easily via internet banking or UPI.

- Treasury Bills (T-Bills): Short-term debt tools with maturities of 91, 182, or 364 days.
- Dated G-Secs: Long-term central government bonds with fixed or floating interest rates.
- State Development Loans (SDLs): Bonds issued by individual state governments to fund development projects.
- Sovereign Gold Bonds (SGBs): Government securities denominated in grams of gold.
- Floating Rate Savings Bonds (FRSBs): Taxable bonds featuring interest rates linked directly to National Savings Certificates (NSC) plus a 0.35% spread.
